Arts & Culture
The Arts and Culture Community Service Program encourages members to promote and support arts activities in their clubs, schools, and communities. It is designed to inspire clubwomen and ignite within them a desire to make their world a more beautiful place. As Edgar Degas once said, “Art is not what you see, but what you make others see.”
The goal is to create programs and projects that include music, literature, dance, drama, theatre, and other arts-related areas, both traditional and innovative, that cause the world around us to see and feel what they might have only once imagined.
The Orange Park Woman’s Club members work together to design and support arts activities in the community.
Ten ladies attended a Halloween Centerpiece Craft class on October 8th, led by Roxie Lewis, who provided the materials and tools and step-by-step instructions. Another craft class for a holiday wreath is planned for December 9th - check the Events calendar for details (you need to reserve a spot in this workshop). We will be working with the Grove Park Elementary school again this year to provide materials for students to create tree ornaments, which will be used to decorate a Christmas tree in the Children’s area of the Orange Park Library. Another tree will be set up in the lobby with ornaments made by the ladies of OPWC. Both trees will be set up and decorated on December 4th. See the Events calendar for details.
Another project by the Arts Committee is to create handmade cards for our Sunshine Committee to use instead of buying commercial Get Well & Sympathy cards. Additional Holiday cards will be made to be given to area nursing homes. Check the Events calendar for dates when you can come and help make the cards!
